Close Encounters
Close Encounters is a large digital inkjet print (1m50 x 5m) of photographic reconstructions of 17thC paintings by Saraceni (St Cecilia and the Angel) and Caravaggio (Bacchus and The Rest on the Flight into Egypt) with Phil Sayers and Rikke Lundgreen as the protagonists.
It questions what are these ‘encounters’ between heavenly apparitions are about? What transactions are they enacting? Are they initiation, temptation, or promises of fulfilment? There seems to be an equilibrium of power between opposites: feminine/masculine, age/ youth, sacred/profane, mortal/ spiritualclick on each image to view
